Why do we do it? Why do we keep our adoptions open?

Open adoption simply means that there is some sort of contact between children and their biological parents after the adoption takes place. In the past, it was unheard of. Then around the 1970’s there began to be a change in the winds. Adopted children wanted to know their biological roots and biological parents wanted to know how the child they placed for adoption has turned out.

With the demand for change came new laws and regulations with the state and nation. Records that were previously sealed up were being reopened. Sometimes those records resulted in a reconnection of biological families- sometimes not. Sometimes those reunions were happy and joyous occasions- sometimes not.

Either way, there was a tendency for adopted children to feel like they had been abandoned. Lifelong questions about their history were being answered. That’s why we do it! Well, that’s not the only reason, but it’s a big one. Adoption laws are not only different now, but it’s the norm for adoptions to be open. About 95% of adoptions now are open with 55% of those having regular and direct contact between adopted children and their biological family.

My children are going to grow up knowing who they are and where they came from. Adoption is not a topic we shy away from. If I had a megaphone that could shout to the whole world, I would tell every listening ear how much I love adoption and what my children’s birth parents mean to me. My children will grow up knowing their biological parents and will be well versed in their own history. They’re still pretty young now, but when the time comes, we’ll hand those reigns over to them. They’ll be able to decide for themselves how much or how little they want to have their biological families in their lives. Right now it’s still up to us. Right now my wife and I are working toward having the road between their adoptive family and biological family paved as smoothly as possible.

We love getting together. I love seeing my little girl bouncing on the knee of her biological father. I love seeing my son blowing and popping bubbles with his birth mother. What joy it brings to my heart to be able to share these experiences with them.

Open Adoption, Open Heart is our story. It’s not a “how to” book meant only for people who are considering adoption. It tells our story, in all the detail of emotion and trials as well as the miraculous and beautiful. It’s a story about building relationships in a way that can come by no other means. It’s a story about learning to love in an entire new way. Hooray for adoption!

About the Author: Russell Elkins

Russell was born on Andrews Air Force Base near Washington, D.C.,
in the fall of 1977. Along with his five siblings, he and his military
family moved around a lot, living in eight different houses by the
time he left for college at age 17. Although his family moved
away from Fallon, Nevada, just a few months after he moved out,
he still considers that little oasis in the desert to be his childhood
hometown.

Even after leaving home, Russell always stayed close to his
family. He shared an apartment with each of his three brothers
at different times during his college career. They formed a band
together back in the 1990s and still perform on a regular basis
under the name of the Invisible Swordsmen.

After nearly a decade of college and changing his major a few
times, Russell received his bachelor's degree in sociology from
Brigham Young University in Provo, Utah. He later graduated from
Ameritech College where he learned the trade of being a dental
lab technician. Russell now owns and operates Elkins Dental Lab
located in Meridian, Idaho.

Asi que... Hola de nuevo Mundo Blogger! Por fin una entrada en tanto tiempo, sin afan y sin contratiempos. Hoy les traigo un nuevo libro que me ha llamado mucho la atencion por su hermosa portada, y me gustaria comprtirlo con ustedes. Aun no hay sinopsis oficial o fecha de publicacion pero mientras tanto podemos disfrutar de un Teaser que nos ha regalado la autora y por supuesto la portada!! :) Digamos que esta seccion (por hoy, Seccion posiblemente sujeta a cambios, se llame New For The World)

 Patinaba detras del equipo y casi habia logrado llegar al final cuando un cuerpo me golpeo por detras impulsandome contra alguien mas. Entonces, en vez de recuperar inmediatamente, agache mi cabeza porque de la nada mi equipo estaba encima de la culpable antes de que puediera escapar. La pelea no duro mucho y nadie quiso meterse en problemas por lo que se disolvio con bastante rapidez.

   "Estas bien?" Dijo una muy masculina voz baja y el sonido zumbaba en mi cara, lo que significaba...

   "Oh, lo siento," dije mientras me apresuraba a alejar mi cara de su pecho.

   "Estas bien?" repetio.

   "Mira, yo..." era el, el chico de la goma. Me habian golpeado en la derecha hacia el pecho del chico con el que habia fantaseado toda una maldita semana. Cuales eran las posibilidades?

   "Maldita sea Owen, parece como si un algodos de azucar acabara de caer en su regazo. 

No dijo que mi cabello lucia como un algodon de azucar.

 Le di mi mas humilde mirada. "Una verdaderamente original, bolsa de Ducha."

First at all, I want tanks to AToMR for let me be in this blog tour and to the author for this incredible book. So here is my review, I think is little bit short, but I can explain myself in this few words how amaze me this book.

Even when in the start  I wasn’t completely sure about involved me in this type of read; I have to say that the true is I like very much this book, not just for the type of new things that gives us but even more because the reading was relaxing not to complicated and its easy be in her. In the first was a little estranger, and I think that it just will be about nothing else that angels and celestials things; but after you give a count that the author incorporate aspects that make that this type of topic not be the same of always.

Imagina un mundo que no conoce sus propias reglas. Sin celulares. Sin Internet. Sin supemercados. Sin dinero. Ningún sistema legal. Un tercio de la población del mundo eliminada en una noche y el conteo asciende a millones cada día. La especie humana esta en peligro de extinción.

Hace mucho tiempo, los Fae destruyeron su mundo y decidieron tomar el nuestro. La historia dice que se mudaron con nosotros entre el 6,000 y el 10,000 a.C. pero los historiadores estan sumamente equivocados. Jericho Barron dice que estuvieron desde el inicio de los tiempos. Lo sabe bien, porque estoy casi segura de que el lo has estado, tambien.

Por mucho tiempo hubo un muro entre nuestros mundos. Con excepcion de algunas grietas, era una solida barricada, especialmente la prision que tenia los Unseelie.

Imagine a world that doesn’t know it’s own rules. No cell phones. No internet. No stock market. No money. No legal system. A third of the world’s population wiped out in a single night and the count rising by millions every day. The human race is an endangered species.

A long time ago, the Fae destroyed their world and decided to take ours. History says they moved in on us between 6,000 and 10,000 B.C. but historians get a lot wrong. Jericho Barrons says they’ve been here since the dawn of time. He should know, because I’m pretty sure he has, too.

For a long time there was a wall between our worlds. With the exception of a few cracks, it was a solid barricade, especially the prison that held the Unseelie.

That barricade is gone now and the prison walls are dust.

All of the Fae are free: the deadly Dark Court and the imperious Light Court who are every bit as deadly, just prettier. A Fae is a Fae. Never trust one. We’re being hunted by voracious monsters that are nearly impossible to kill. Their favorite food? People.
As if that’s not bad enough, there are fragments of Faery reality drifting around that swallow up anything in their path. They’re tricky to spot; you can drive right into one, if you’re not careful. The night the walls fell, Faery itself was fractured. Some say even the inimical Hall of All Days was changed, and opened new portals onto our world. The drifting is the part that really gets me. You can go to sleep in your own bed and wake up in a completely different reality. If you’re lucky, the climate won’t kill you instantly and the inhabitants won’t eat you. If you’re really really lucky, you’ll find your way home. Eventually. If you’re super lucky, time will pass at a normal rate while you’re gone. Nobody’s that lucky. Folks vanish all the time. They just disappear and are never seen again.
Then there are the amorphous Shades that lurk in the dark, and consume every living thing in their path, right down to the nutrients in the soil. When they’re done, all that’s left is dirt that an earthworm couldn’t live in—not that they leave those either. It’s a minefield outside that door. Walk lightly. Your parents’ rules don’t apply. Do be afraid of the dark. And if you’re thinking there might be a monster under your bed or in your closet, there probably is. Get up and check.

Welcome to Planet Earth.

This is our world now—one that doesn’t know it’s own rules. And when you’ve got a world that doesn’t know it’s own rules, everything dark and nasty that was once held in check comes slithering out of the cracks to try to take a shot at whatever it wants. It’s a free-for-all. We’re back to being cavemen. Might is right. Possession is nine-tenths of the law. The bigger and badder you are, the better your odds of surviving. Get a gun or learn to run. Fast. Preferably both.

Twelve Months is the best example of how you can immortalize through words the beauty of life. Don DiMarco is, for me,is  the character who has all the requirements, not pf a "spectator" but the best "love of life", whenever you read a page of this book and you find Don's thoughts, can feel like life can have as many lessons accumulated in one person.
The whole book itself can be a source of strength and wisdom. Every sentence, every teaching to be found in its pages are recorded in your mind and leave you wanting to appreciate each day as if it were the last.

 

I think even though the book is about someone who wants to spend their best days before cancer
snatch it, the story does not revolve around CANCER but rather the "best" aspects that brought: the courage the union and strength with which Don was able make peace with himself and his past.

In almost all the book I expect to the Time come out and in that moment I will die with him, but was surprinsing that in all the travel for the story, I read how the life shined for him and his family, and how with every person he met learned that the beauty of life is not always out there but also and first in your family, in your home and in the little and simple gifts that God gives you for makes your life better.

I've never read something about Cancer or until now, never come to my life and family, but with this book I think that I learn so much, not about Cancer but rather about the tenacity and the power that we have as human beings.

  The story ends just beautiful. Emotionally charged and although not an end in which character is 'live' is a peaceful end, of dreams realized, of experiences and best company of what was for him, one of the best gifts that life has given you: Love. His love.

I really believe that this book talks but itself, because its disficcult to me express how much this book made me see the life and the thinks that I learned with him its something that I never forget. 

I recomend it 100% for his influence, his beautiful story and his capacity to change the view of the life.

Conclusion: Twelve Months is a book that has the ability to reach readers through a touching and inspiring story, where the cancer is not the main factor for the dissolution of many ties holding the character with his life but rather the strengthening of this. Reading as it progresses it becomes relaxing but at the same time make you feel heartbreaking making it easier to "catch" the true intent of the author.
